Sound feature of the student text
« on: February 14, 2011, 12:03:17 pm »

My students are LOVING their new laptops. They have found the annotation feature of their textbook and are having fun playing with that. They love the idea of using their laptop for homework instead of their math text. However, we're having trouble getting the speaker function to work. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much for posting. This is actually a rather popular question that we get often. If the audio portion of the of the ebooks on the Students tab of the Big Ideas Learning website is not functioning properly the are a few things to check first.
  • 1. Make sure that all updates are downloaded AND installed. Updates to watch for: Adobe, Your Browser, and/or Your Operating System.
  • 2. Make sure that you RESTART your computer after any updates. Often a computer will require you to restart the computer before the updates actually take effect.
When you click to hear audio, a yellow bar will appear just below the the top portion of your web browser that reads: Some features have been disabled to avoid potential security risks. Only enable these features if you trust this host: www.bigideaslearning.com; this message will be followed by an Options box and a Help box. If you click on the Options box it will say: Trust this host one time only and another non-selectable option of: Trust this host always. Select the Trust this host one time only. The yellow bar will then turn purple and mention a form and other things, ignore this completely, simply click on the icon to the LEFT and the purple bar will go away. Now you can freely click and listen to any audio portion. Since our website does not store cookies, after the browser is closed, you will need to repeat this process again for each new session. I hope this helps but if you have more questions let me know.
