Best Practices in the Mathematics Classroom

Recent research documents that the most important factor affecting student learning is the teacher. The results show wide variation in the effectiveness among teachers. Effective teachers appear to be effective with students of all achievement levels, regardless of the level of heterogeneity in their classrooms. Big Ideas Learning will work with teachers as they examine what research has found to be successful classroom instructional strategies. Together we will take a practical approach to the research, looking at specific studies, generalizations and specific instructional strategies. We will work through examples of the strategies within the mathematics classroom and help teachers as they develop lesson plans using these strategies.

This one day workshop provides teachers with effective, researched based strategies that they can implement immediately. We will model mathematics instruction so that teachers have the knowledge and skills to implement best practices in their classroom.
