Reading in the Content Areas
In today's world, where no child is to be left behind, every teacher has a responsibility to help students access, read, and understand texts. Curriculum standards and high stakes tests have underlined the role that reading plays in every subject area. Research shows that when students do not understand what they read, they often have difficulty in that particular subject area.
All teachers can help students become better readers through reading strategies. In this hands-on workshop teachers will be work on developing reading strategies as well as practice using reading strategies for the math classroom. Each reading strategy draws on different approaches that good readers use to read their textbooks.
Teachers will leave the workshop prepared to integrate and enhance reading skills into their math classroom.
