Middle School Activities: Teaching More with Less

What do lima beans, toothpicks, spaghetti and paper clips have in common? They are all manipulative tools that can be used in the math classroom to help students explore the vibrant world of mathematics!

In our one-day workshop, Big Ideas Learning will work with teachers to develop rich classroom activities that can be done with everyday objects that don't require extra money or extra storage! From folding and cutting paper for the exploration of the area of polygons to using paper clips to make spinners to investigate probabilities, teachers will see how easy it is to move into the world of rich investigations.

Teachers will leave the workshop with lessons and ideas that they can implement immediately, but more importantly, they will leave with strategies to take concepts much deeper by engaging students in processes and activities that are challenging and fun!
